The best and cheapest way to get your gravel and shingle is:
- For quantities of 4 - 7 tons from your local carrier who is set up to deliver this size of load. (See “Sand and Gravel Supplier” in Yellow Pages.)
- For smaller quantities your local builders merchant will deliver in giant bags of 1 ton. A bit expensive but very convenient. You must have a look at the material before ordering as colours and make up can vary and of course compare quotes.

Be careful – what looks good as a sample can look out of place in your garden situation.
If you want an ornamental stone because it is attractive and different the answer is to:
- Choose a more “up market” version of what is found locally for a traditional look.
- Choose a stone whose colours create a contrast with its surroundings giving a contemporary look.
If you order stone from our suppliers, they can deliver with your order some larger pieces of this same stone. These can be used to make little outcrops to give extra interest.
As well as having a few much larger stones / rocks with your shingle garden, you can also have patches of only slightly larger stone than your main order randomly mixed in. These can be sourced from your local pit if you are using shingle or from our supplier if you are going down that route.
